The photographer is in a boat close to the hull amidships off the starboard side, looking aft showing two accommodation ladders rigged aft; one at a shell door and the other further aft at the main deck. Lifeboat number 17 has been launched. Two of the ship's boats are alongside the accommodation ladders while some dghaisas are standing off from the gangways. Fort St. Angelo is in the background and the flag of the Vice-Admiral in charge Malta and Admiral Superintendent Malta Dockyard is flying from the mast above the signal station.
