The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira, from inland.
The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is on high ground to the north of the town looking south over the tiled rooftops to the waterfront. A large warehouse or factory building is on the waterfront on the left of the picture and just to the right of centre is the steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao. On the right is the square tower of the Jesuit College Church. A cable ship, a general cargo steamship and a Canadian Pacific Steamships passenger cruise ship of the Mont class are at anchor offshore. The passenger cruise ship, seen from just abaft her starboard beam, is one of Montcalm (1921), Montclare (1922) and Montrose (1922).
