The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is looking south-west-by-south from a cultivated area on the hill slopes to the north of the town. Two steamships and a four masted hulk are in the anchorage. On the left is the square tower of the Jesuit College Church. To the right of centre is Mohle Fort on the end of the breakwater of the Bahias da Potinha.
