The town at Funchal, Madeira, from on board the Cunard Line passenger cruise ship Laconia (1922) in the anchorage. The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of the promenade deck aft showing the boat deck and ship's funnel on the left. The passenger landing pier is in the centre of the picture and just to its right is a tall brick-built column with a mast on top of it. To the left of the column is the square twoer of the Jesuit College Church and to the right of it is the steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao. Clouds are touching the tops of the mountains in the background.
