The Bahia da Potinha breakwater, Mohle Fort and the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is looking east from the garden of Reid's Palace Hotel showing the Mohle fort at the end of the breakwater which has been strengthened with large concrete blocks on the south side. Out in the anchorage are a Blue Star Line passenger cruise ship of the A class, a flush-decked, split superstructure cargo ship and a Canadian Pacific Steamships passenger cruise ship of the Mont class which is dressed overall and has a large number of bumboats alongside it. About ten lighters are at anchor on the right.
