A signalling feature on the waterfront at Funchal, Madeira.

A signalling feature on the waterfront at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is looking north-north-east from the passenger landing pier showing a tall brick-built column with a signalling mast on the top of it. Two davits are at the top of the column and the lines go down to cleats fixed to side of building number 8 on the waterfront. There are square projections at intervals on the face of the column and two of them are marked 1650 and 1901. Buildings behind the column are occupied by Blandys and by Blandy Brothers & Co Lda. The steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao is in the background and the clock is reading 11.56. A vertical format negative.
