The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is looking south from the hill slopes over the rooftops of the town. On the left near the waterfront is a large warehouse or factory building with a circular chimney. In the centre is the steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao and on the right is the square tower of the Jesuit College Church. Out in the anchorage are a 3-masted schooner, two passenger/cargo liners and a 2-funnelled passenger cruise ship.
