The Orient Line passenger cruise ship in the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira.
The Orient Line passenger cruise ship Orontes (1929) in the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is in a boat close to the port side amidships looking aft showing the motor passenger tender Scotia alongside the accommodation ladder. She is embarking passengers for a run ashore and a few bumboats are alongside her with the traders bartering their wares of embroidered and lace items and wickerwork goods. The passenger landing pier is in the background with a tall, brick-built signalling column, the square tower of the Jesuit College Church and the steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhore da Assuncao to the right.
