Bumboats alongside an Orient Line passenger cruise ship in the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The local traders, in boats numbered A1582b, A2684E and E1423E, are bartering their wickerwork with passengers on the deck at the port quarter of the ship. The photographer is at water level looking back towards the coast at the eastern end of the town. Some of the wickerwork pieces have the date 1938 worked into the design. A vertical format negative.
