The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira.
The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is on the lower slopes at the back of the town looking south over the rooftops showing the square tower of the Jesuit College Church on the right and the steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao is to the right of centre. The clock on the steeple is reading 2.50. A Canadian Pacific Steamships passenger cruise ship of the Mont class (1921-1922), seen from off her port beam, is in the anchorage and in front of her stern is the top of a tall brick-built column with a mast on top of it and flying from the mast are the Canadian Pacific houseflag and the flag for the letter V. The flag V in International Code signifies "I require assistance". In the left background and also seen from off her port beam is the Royal Mail Lines passenger cruise ship Andes (1913).
