The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira.

The town and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is on the lower slopes at the back of the town looking south over the rooftops showing the square tower of the Jesuit College Church on the right and the steeple of the Catedral of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao is to the right of centre. The clock on the steeple is reading 2.40. On the left is a large warehouse or factory building with a circular chimney and to the right of it are a general cargo ship and a passenger/cargo ship, both with lighters alongside. A Canadian Pacific Steamships passenger cruise ship of the Mont class (1921-1922), seen from off her starboard beam and dressed overall, is in the centre of the picture and on the right is a deeply laden cargo ship.
