The Upper Barracca Lift in Valletta, Malta. The photographer is looking south-east from Duke of York Avenue showing the high level footbridge and the braced lattice structure of the lift tower. On the lift access is an advert for Cisk Lacto and written on the tower is "Advertise with Berka & Times of Malta". The Times of Malta was first published in 1935. At moorings in the Grand Harbour and seen from dead ahead is the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Reliant (1923). Under way beyond her is the rescue tug Respond (1918), seen from off her starboard quarter.
