Italian passenger/cargo ships in Grand Harbour, Malta.

Two Italian passenger/cargo ships moored stern-on to the Barriera (Quarry) Wharf in Grand Harbour, Malta. The photographer is in the Upper Barracca at Valletta looking east-by-north over the six guns in the Saluting Battery showing the Royal Naval Hospital at Bighi on the right, Fort Rinella in the centre and Fort Ricasoli on the left. An unidentified "Tirrenia" (Flotte Riunite Florio-Citra) passenger/cargo ship, seen from abaft her starboard beam, is working cargo with lighters alongside in the middle foreground and her stern is out of the picture. On the left, and also seen from abaft her starboard beam, is the "Tirrenia" passenger/cargo liner Arborea (1929). She has a large number of dghaisas alongside her starboard quarter accommodation ladder. The negative is slightly damaged at the bottom.
