The photographer is looking south-east from the Upper Barracca over Fort Lascaris showing Fort St. Angelo with the Royal Naval Hospital and Kalkara Creek on the left and Dockyard Creek on the right. The Royal Navy light cruiser Penelope (1935) of the 3rd Cruiser Squadron, seen from wide off her port bow, is at moorings in Dockyard Creek. She has awnings rigged and has neutrality stripes on 'B' turret.
