Shipping in Grand Harbour, Malta.
Shipping in Grand Harbour, Malta. The photographer is looking east-north-east across the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barracca in Valletta showing the Saluting Battery in the left foreground and Fort Lascaris in the right foreground. A Prince Line cargo steamship which is dressed overall and a Deutsche Levant Linie cargo liner are moored stern-on to the Barriera (Quarry) Wharf. They are both seen from abaft the starboard beam and their sterns are out of the picture. At moorings off Bighi Bay on the right is the Royal Navy battleship Resolution (1915) with a Leaf class oiler alongside. Both ships have awnings rigged, the battleship is seen from just abaft her port beam and the oiler from ahead of her starboard beam. Moored in Bighi Bay in the centre is a P. & O. passenger cruise ship, either the Strathnaver (1931) or the Strathaird (1932), viewed from off the port beam. The Royal Naval Hospital at Bighi is in the right background with Fort Rinella in the centre and Fort Ricasoli on the left.
