Lord Charles's Liberty men
Signed by artist. This is one of a number of drawings in the collection which relate to the painting 'Lord Charles's Liberty Men', exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1908 and now in the Royal Naval Museum at Portsmouth, showing men coming ashore from the fleet under Admiral Lord Charles Beresford. It seems to have been a subject of which Wyllie did a number of versions: a fully developed water colour (11 x 19 in.) inscribed and signed lower left 'Liberty men / W.L.Wyllie', was in the annual exhibition of the Royal Exchange Gallery, London, in the autumn of 1988 (5 Oct - 4 Nov), no. 26.
