No. 4 [Lower Gallery] Deck, location 4G2. The portside deck space in the vicinity of frame 60, looking aft. To the immediate left are the guardrail stanchions for the hatchway leading down to the kit locker flat at 5G4. The doorway in bulkhead 67 leads into the deck space at 4J6, where a crewman can be seen next to a stowed accommodation ladder. A portable water pump sits on a shelf in the middle of the picture, with sections of hose stowed nearby.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
