No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck. The Lower Hangar in the vicinity of frame 137, looking aft towards bulkhead 139 (the aft end of the hangar space). The mesh grille doors lead into the Nylon Pack and Barrier Net stowage compartment, while the door at the extreme left leads into an airlock. In the foreground are a large wheeled storage bin and a tripod axle jack.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
