HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck. The Lower Hangar in the vicinity of frame 130, looking to port. The doorway in the far left-hand corner leads into an airlock, while those in the longitudinal bulkhead to the centre/right lead into the down take serving 70Z0. On the stowage shelf at Lower Gallery deck level is a section of large pipe, what appears to be two spare rear fuselages and some stacked crates. A work table and ship's telephone point are beneath the shelf at hangar deck level, as is fire point number 8.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
