No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck, location 5W0. Interior of the aft aircraft lift well at hangar deck level, prior to its full conversion to a mess space, looking aft towards bulkhead 196. The lift has been disabled and set at Upper Hangar deck level. Two doorways are set in bulkhead 196; the one at Lower Gallery deck level still bearing the sign 'Cleansing Station'.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
