Seascape
A rapid sketch showing waves moving diagonally across the paper. Although the location is not specified, Everett painted a large number of similar seascapes of Cornwall, Jersey and Brittany in the winter months between 1919 and 1938. This sketch emphasizes the effects of the intense light on the left, in contrast with the dark mauve cloud formation on the right Everett painted a large number of sketches observing the movement of waves as they approach the shore, experimenting with colour and form to achieve the required result. He was equally concerned with the effects of light and representations of light in the sky and the relationship between the sea and the sky.
