Lifebuoy
This type of lifebuoy, in a frame on the side of the hull, was carried by cruisers of the Royal Navy from about 1895 to the First World War. They were mounted on the hull on each side of the ship near the stern. The other type of life-saving device stored in a frame of this type was the night lifebuoy, which was cruciform in shape with a globe-shaped float at the end of each arm.
