Seascape

A fleeting impression of a seascape seen from a ship, showing distant mountain peaks to the left. In this rapid sketch seen from a low viewpoint Everett uses form and colour to explore the relationship between sea, sky and land. Despite the looseness of the sketch he has reduced the patterning of the waves to a series of short brush strokes of varying colour tones. The crests are shown with patches of light colour and the undersides of the waves are painted with varying shade of diagonal hatching lines. The sky is highlighted with a pink horizontal line above the horizon and by tones of cream, pink, lilac and yellow. There is an artist's monogram lower right.
