A sketch of the sea made while the artist was at Corbiere in Jersey, focusing on the relationship between the sea and sky. The sea in the foreground has been reduced to a collection of horizontal strips of colour, darkening towards the distant horizon. Lighter paint indicates the crests and movement of the breaking waves. The sky is reduced to streaked blocks of colour, with a dark grey mass on the horizon representing a bank of cloud with a layer of cream yellow and pale blue above. On the top left a diagonal of purple cuts across the plane. In his seascapes Everett was concerned with the effects of light and representations of light in the sky and the relationship between the sea and the sky. He stayed at Corbiere from 13 January to 6 February 1928, to paint the constantly changing appearance of sea and sky. The sketch is inscribed with the artist's monogram bottom right, and 'Jersey' verso.
