Seascape from the 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis'

A sketch taken from the deck of the steamer, 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis' (previously misspelt in the artist's file 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'). The sea is shown as flat calm while the clouds are shown banked in horizontal layers. The dark colour on the horizon may indicate land. Although the sea has been painted in thin washes of flecked colour, the cloud is shown as a solid mass of thickly applied colour in shades of grey with white and mauve. Blue sky is just visible top left. Everett sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932.
