HMS Ark Royal (1950)
No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck. The Lower Hangar in the vicinity of frame 122, looking to starboard and slightly aft. A crewman is standing in the doorway leading into the Liquid Oxygen Compressor compartment at 5Q1. The partially open double doors in the centre lead into an airlock, while the mesh grille door to the right of them provides access to the Nylon Pack and Barrier Net stowage compartment. In the centre is an aircraft fuelling/defuelling point. To the right is a large cylindrical storage bin and a tripod axle jack.
This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
