The India was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U.22 on 8 August 1915 off Helligvaer near Bodo, Norway. 160 officers and crew were lost in the sinking and this plaque commemmorates 13 of them. The photographer took the picture during a cruise of the Norwegian fjords by the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929). A vertical format negative.
