The memorial obelisk to the lost crew of the Royal Navy armed merchant cruiser India (1896) in the cemetery at Narvik, Norway. The India was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U.22 on 8 August 1915 off Helligvaer near Bodo, Norway. 160 officers and crew were lost in the sinking and the plaque mounted on the memorial commemmorates 13 of them. The photographer took the picture during a cruise of the Norwegian fjords by the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929). A vertical format negative.
