HMS Ark Royal (1950)
No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck. The Lower Hangar in the vicinity of frame 105, looking to starboard. Large stowage shelves can be seen at Lower Gallery and Upper Hangar deck levels. To the left at hangar deck level is a group of five large nitrogen bottles (part of the fire suppression system). Immediately adjacent to them is a NATO air panel and a low pressure air point, an aircraft fuelling/defuelling point and a radar cooling point. To the right, partially concealed behind some boxes, is fire point no. 5.
This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
