HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck. The Lower Hangar in the vicinity of frame 105, looking to starboard. Large stowage platforms can be seen to the right at Lower Gallery and Upper Hangar deck levels. To the left of them is part of the mechanism for opening and closing the doors to the forward aircraft lift. From left to right at hangar deck level are the doorway leading to the access lobby, vents and fire point no. 3. Miscellaneous equipment and boxes of stores can be seen in the foreground.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
