On board a Swedish American Line passenger cruise ship, either the Gripsholm (1925) or the Kungsholm (1928), leaving Pier 97 at New York. The photographer is looking to starboard from the centreline of the boat deck in front of the bridge showing passengers looking towards the crowded viewing platform on the end of the pier, which is at the end of West 57th Street. The pier is shared by the Swedish American Line and the Italian Line.
