On board a Swedish American Line passenger cruise ship, either the Gripsholm (1925) or the Kungsholm (1928), leaving Pier 97 at New York. The photographer is looking to starboard from the boat deck showing the crowded viewing platform on the end of the pier, which is at the end of West 57th Street. The pier has the Swedish American name on it.
