The commercial port at Palermo, Sicily.
The commercial port at Palermo, Sicily. The photographer is looking north from a building on a quayside showing a number of merchant ships berthed stern-on to the quay. A merchant ship with twin steering wheels on the poop is in the foreground and the next vessel, seen from off the port side, is the general cargo ship Ugo Bassi (1902) but only her stern is in the picture. Beyond her is an American Export Lines cargo liner of the Hog Island type and her name begins with "City of". The port's lighthouse is on the right and Monte Pellegrino is in the background.
