Canoe racing on the River Seine in Paris, France
Canoe racing on the River Seine in Paris, France. The photographer is looking from high above the river bank showing a large crowd of spectators in the foreground and the river bank and roadway on the opposite side of the river is also packed with spectators. On the water are four large canoes, each with eleven crew comprising a coxswain and ten paddlers. Two of the canoes have all male club crews, one has a French naval crew of seamen in a boat named 'Courage', and the fourth canoe has a female crew although the coxswain may be male. These canoes have Federation Francaise De Canoe on them. A number of 2-man canoes, one single man canoe and one single man inflatable boat are also in the picture. The motor barge Cojeul (fl. 1937), seen from ahead of her starboard beam, is under way on the river.
