Seascape from the 'Umberleigh'
An impressionistic sketch showing the sea and sky from a low viewpoint on the 'Umberleigh'. The sea is reduced to a series of horizontal bands of colour with impasto paint applied diagonally to show the direction and crests of the waves. The sky is shown with a range of thin tonal washes with slashes of pink and green. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Umberleigh', from Barry, Wales, to Vancouver, Canada, in December 1933 and returned in March 1934. The painting is inscribed 'Um' verso.
