Seascape from the 'Umberleigh'
A sketch looking along the trough of a wave from the 'Umberleigh'. The viewpoint is close to the water and Everett has shown the dark blue waves as a series of peaks crowned with white foam. The horizon is on the level with the viewer's eye. The sky contrasts with the dark sea with light blue tones, to make the sketch an exercise in blue paint. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Umberleigh', from Barry, Wales, to Vancouver, Canada, in December 1933 and returned in March 1934. The painting is inscribed 'Um' verso.
