The west bank of the Suez Canal at Port Said, Egypt. The photographer is on board the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) which is anchored close to the bank while heading north. The Hotel Marina-Savoy is on the right and there are two "To let" signs on the roof. The Simon Arzt building is north of the hotel and amongst the boats moored to the side of the canal are two with Simon Arzt on them. The Suez Canal Company office building is on the left and a number of the company's tugs and steamers are berthed near the building.
