The photographer is in a boat on the canal looking at the port quarter of a passenger launch with Viceroy of India and the number TL56 on the transom and the starboard bow of another passenger launch named Scarab. Both of these vessels are alongside the starboard aft accommodation ladder of the Orford (1928). In the left background is the tower of the Port Police building.
