In the right foreground alongside a quay on the east side of the harbour and seen from fine off her starboard bow is a wooden hulled, single masted vessel with a bowsprit, tiller rudder and very long lateen sail yard. Men are using wicker baskets to discharge her cargo across a narrow plank from the bow to the quay. The photogrpaher is looking north-west from the quay showing a large ketch and a ketch rigged yacht on the right. The bell tower and dome of the Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio can be seen on the north side of the harbour on the left.
