The Nea Agora (New Market) in the New Town at Rhodes.
The Nea Agora (New Market) in the New Town at Rhodes. The photographer is looking north-north-east from the walls of the Old Town showing the Nea Agora in the foreground surrounded by trees with Mandraki harbour beyond it. The eastern breakwater of the harbour is on the left with the Agios Nikolaos fortress and lighthouse at the eastern end of it. Berthed in the harbour alongside the fortress is an Italian Navy convoy gunboat of the Andrea Bafile class (1921-1922). Three medieval windmills are on the Akti Mpoumpouli and anchored offshore is a Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship of the Ranpura class. She is seen from just ahead of her starboard beam and is one of Ranpura (1925), Ranchi (1925), Rawalpindi (1925) or Rajputana (1925). Compare this image with negative number P94617 taken from a similar position but much later in the 1930s.
