The Nea Agora (New Market) in the New Town at Rhodes.
The Nea Agora (New Market) in the New Town at Rhodes. The photographer is looking north-north-east from the walls of the Old Town showing the Nea Agora in the foreground surrounded by a road and new buildings and with Mandraki harbour beyond it. The Italian Bank is under construction on the left and beyond it is the Agios Nikolaos fortress and lighthouse. Berthed in the harbour alongside the fortress are a cargo ship and a 2-masted schooner. Three medieval windmills are on the Akti Mpoumpouli and anchored offshore is Orient Line passenger cruise ship Orford (1928). She is seen from just ahead of her port beam. Compare this image with negative number P94615 taken from a similar position but much earlier in the 1930s.
