The harbour, the breakwater lighthouse and the Plage Grande-Conche at Royan, France. The photographer is looking east-by-north from the west side of the harbour showing a variety of fishing boats, dinghies, yachts and rowing boats at moorings. The Poitou-Charentes lighthouse is on the end of the breakwater on the right. In the left background is the Municipal Casino built in 1895 and destroyed by bombing in 1945. In the background is the 2 kilometre promenade and the Plage Grande-Conche. A large gasholder is in the centre background. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929).
