The Municipal Casino and the north end of the Plage Grande-Conche at Royan, France.
The Municipal Casino and the north end of the Plage Grande-Conche at Royan, France. The photographer is looking east showing large numbers of candy-striped tents packed onto the top of the sandy beach. It is mid tide and very many people are on the beach and some are paddling in the sea. The Municipal Casino, built in 1895 and destroyed by bombing in 1945, is in the centre of the picture. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929).
