St. James Church, Jacob's Ladder and Ladder Hill Fort at Jamestown on St. Helena. The photographer is looking south-south-west from seaward showing the sea wall with St. James Church on the left. The 699 steps of Jacob's Ladder was built in 1829 to provide access from the valley floor to the fort on top of Ladder Hill.
