Porto Grande harbour, St. Vincent (Sao Vicente), Cape Verde Islands.
Porto Grande Harbour, St. Vincent (Sao Vicente), Cape Verde Islands. The photographer is looking north-west from the shore in front of the Avenue Marginal at Mindelo showing a sloop or small schooner propped up on the beach in the left foreground. She has been de-rigged but her bowsprit is in place and a man is leaning on her chain bobstay. Three rowing boats are drawn up on the beach on the right. Cargo and oil fuel lighters, a steam tug, sloops and schooners are anchored or moored just offshore. Anchored further out are a steam tanker, four general cargo steamships, a cable vessel and a Canadian Pacific Steamships Duchess class (1928) cruise ship. They are all seen from off the starboard beam and the cruise ship is one of Duchess of Atholl (1928), Duchess of Bedford (1928) or Duchess of Richmond (1928).
