The photographer is looking north from a cruise ship in San Juan Bay showing the waterfront of the Lighthouse Service base and alongside the quay on the left is United States Navy minesweeper Vireo (1919). She is seen from off her starboard beam and has the hull number 52 but everything aft of her funnel is out of the picture. One of the Popular class of passenger motor launches is alongside the quay on the right
