The waterfront at San Juan, Puerto Rico
The waterfront at San Juan, Puerto Rico. The photographer is looking north from on board a cruise ship in San Juan Bay showing the United States Lighthouse Service base at La Puntilla on the left. Two sloops and a 2-masted schooner are in the harbour and two Popular class passenger launches are alongside the quay in the centre. Alongside the wharf of the New York & Porto Rico Steamship Co on the right is the United States Navy destroyer Helm (1937), seen from off her port quarter. Her stern is out of the picture. The building at the inshore end of the Porto Rico Line wharf is the cable office building of the West India and Panama Telegraph Co. Ltd. and the Western Union Telegraph Company. In the left background is the Roof Garden Restaurant of the Hotel Palace and in the right background are the National City Bank of New York and a building with SINGER on it.
