The harbour and town at Thira, Santorini Island, Greece.
The harbour and town at Thira, Santorini Island, Greece. The photographer is looking east-by-north from a passenger cruise ship anchored offshore showing the landing place, quay and breakwater in the centre. The zigzag flight of steps up the cliff face is to the left of centre and the town is on the skyline. The Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. John The Baptist is on the right. This building and many others in the town were destroyed in the Amorgos earthquake on 9 July 1956.
