On board the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) as she approaches her anchorage off Thira, Santorini Island, Greece. The photographer is looking forward from the upper promenade deck on the starboard side showing the leadsman heaving the sounding lead from the chains while being watched by passengers on the lower promenade deck. One of the passengers is sitting on the cargo winch and is holding a small pair of binoculars. Members of the crew, including one of the ship's nurses, are in the foreward well deck. A vertical format negative.
