On board the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) in the anchorage off Thira, Santorini Island, Greece. The photographer is on the aft promenade deck looking to starboard and aft showing passengers at the rail looking towards the harbour and landing place of Thira. A large cargo winch is on the deck. The town of Thira is at the top of the cliffs and just to the right of centre is the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. John The Baptist which was destroyed in the Amorgos earthquake on 9 July 1956. A vertical format negative.
